And while successive lockdowns and relentless onslaught of Covid this year has driven some to reach for the comfort food, Steve battled through to lose two-and-a-half stone more.

Steve had assumed slimming clubs were aimed mostly at women but decided to give it a try when he was encouraged to join with a friend.

He said: “During Lockdown the virtual groups Chris (Steve’s consultant) ran really helped me to stay motivated, on track and to not forget to keep up all the good work I had done so far.

“I can’t believe that I have lost two-and-a-half stone during lockdown, especially after seeing on the news about the obesity crisis.

“It is all down to keeping an eye on the prize, and the help, support and encouragement of my Slimming World group, along with friends, family and neighbours too - it has all helped to keep me on the straight and narrow.”

His consultant Chris Lines, who runs groups in Knaresborough, said: “Steve has done brilliantly and we are all in awe of his transformation.

“He is such a positive member and made full use of our virtual service during lockdown and was one of the first to book his place in group when we reopened in August.

“He now walks to group each week and is always working towards his next award or his next stone zone

“While so much has changed this year his determination and motivation has remained the same – he is a real inspiration to us all and I couldn’t be prouder of everything Steve has achieved.”
