Shop worker goes extra miles to help charity

A butchers shop worker is turning super hero to help children and young people with life-limiting illnesses.

Liam Henzell will walk around his home village of Bramham on Bank Holiday Friday to Sunday May 10 in fancy dress to raise money for Martin House.

“Each hour I’ll go out in a different outfit, ideas that have been given from the local villagers and walk the nearly two mile route so everyone can see me, looking a little different than normal,” said Liam.

“Hopefully I will be raising smiles as well as some much needed funds.”

Liam, who works at Firths Butchers in Boston Spa, has been raising funds for the NHS and his Just Giving fund is over £1,000 by walking his dog Stanlee around the Bramham dressed as superheroes.

“I’ve been walking my dog Stanlee every night in fancy dress for the past few weeks, just to make people smile and lighten the mood a little,” added Liam who is a massive Marvel fan.

“I was inspired by Captain Tom Moore to raise some money for the NHS, Liam style.

“My faithful pal Stanlee is joining me on some of the walks in his own little outfits.” Liam will wear different outfits, including Disney princesses, to cover about 20 miles over three afternoons to help swell the funds already raised for Boston Spa-based Martin House.

The hospice for children and young people has suffered huge losses during the coronavirus lockdown as fundraising events have been cancelled.

It is appealing to people to find alternative ways to raise funds to keep help maintain its support services to its clients and their families.
