Shelter for village park users

New shelters have been put up in a popular Boston Spa park thanks to funding from around the area.

Using a grant applied for from Leeds City Council’s Park Fund, the Friends of Stables Lane (FOSL) gained funding for one gazebo at the rejuvinated site and Boston Spa in Bloom provided funds for a second. The Parish Council funded the installation.

Parish Councillor Kevin Alderson, Chair of the FOSL Group, said: “We are delighted to be able to provide these extra facilities and we are especially grateful to Boston Spa in Bloom for helping us out.

“With the new shelters parents can watch their kids play while under cover and also spectators for the Junior Football can keep out of the rain should they wish to.”

Coun Alderson added: “Whilst the new park has proved very popular with village residents and visitors alike, there was actually no cover whatsoever if the weather was poor.”

The shelters were delivered in “kit form”, and volunteers were called on to dig footings, manufacture steel anchor plates and supervise professional builders who completed the final assembly, under the project manager of local resident and Bowling Club member Phil Harrison.

“This is one more small step in the ongoing development of the new Park and we hope to add further enhancements in the future as and when further funding can be obtained,” added Coun Alderson.
