Pupils win Lions’ share of treats

Rudolph is resting in preparation for Christmas Eve and has asked two of his friends to tow Santa’s sleigh around Wetherby during December.

The Lions invited local primary schools to take part in a competition to name these new helpers.

St James Prmary pupil Lilly suggested Cinnamon Gallopsalot and Deighton Gates pupil Elisabeth said Moonlight - winning each of them chocolates from Bon Bons and a hamper from Morrisons.

Presenting the prizes to the winners, Tim Ritson said: “As everyone knows, this has been a very tough and dismal year for a large number of us but the Lions felt they would like to create as much sparkle around Christmas as possible.

“We hope this competition has added a little bit of the magic of Christmas and Santa will still be visiting homes around Wetherby to bring some festive cheer to as many people as possible.

“Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions, he will not be able to distribute any gifts and children can only wave to him from their gardens or windows as he passes by.”

Santa’s routes are listed below and although the Lions are not able to carry out their usual bucket collection, donations can be made via the Virgin Money Giving page on the Lions website (www.wetherbylions.org).
