Preview: Exciting new event in Harrogate this weekend to help public end use of plastic
Harrogate Fair Trade Shop is to “help you make the changes” to make it possible to ditch plastic from your daily life.
Called Fantastic Plastic Free World, this weekend’s special event is a collaboration between Harrogate Fair Trade, Harrogate Skills 4 Living and Zero Carbon Harrogate.
A collaborative ethical shop with refill centre, pop-up space, workshops, charity awareness-raising, Harrogate Fair Trade also supports training places for people with learning difficulties and autism.
Taking place at Harrogate Chocolate Factory Cafe at Odeon Buildings on East Parade, it’s the first fruits of Harrogate Fair Trade’s recent £149,000 funding boost from York and North Yorkshire Mayor David Skaith’s Vibrant and Sustainable High Street Fund.

Running from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, July 25, Fantastic Plastic Free World will offer tips about how simple swaps to everyday shopping can make a big difference to plastic pollution.
The event will also give attendees the chance to learn about the fabulous new shop Harrogate Fair Trade is planning, with a refill station and plastic-free products alongside recycled and sustainable fair trade goods.
Plastic Free World will include:
Refill station and plastic-free cleaning products
Wooden toys and recycled gifts
Harrogate Chocolate Factory Chocolate
Handmade crafts by HS4L learners
Food and Fairtrade drinks available in the cafe
Bring your own bottle and enjoy a free 250ml refil
Since Mayor Skaith introduced the Vibrant and Sustainable High Street Fund in 2024, a total of 65 projects across York and North Yorkshire have received financial backing.
