Patient appeals for goods to provide NHS staff

A Boston Spa woman who suffers from multiple poor health conditions has come up with a way to say thanks to the NHS.

Claire Maxted-Wiggins, 41, has been in and out of hospital since the age of 11 and lives with Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Costochondritis, and now wants to provide care packages to say thanks.

“I started with symptoms of juvenile arthritis when I was 11,” said Claire, who has been an active fundraiser for various causes since she was 16.

“Over the years I’ve had lots of care at all the hospitals that I have decided to work with.

“I have so far over £60,000 for various charities and find keeping busy to be very therapeutic.”

In the first lockdown Claire, who has been shielding for 11 months, made pamper hampers that were given to medical staff in the Wetherby area.

Claire is now appealing to businesses and residents to donate items for the care packages which will be delivered to Leeds and York hospitals.

“I am looking for biscuits, chocolates, sweets (wrapped), crisps, marmalades, tea, coffee, jams, toiletries, books, dvds, etc,” she said.

“There’s hundreds of staff working tirelessly through the pandemic. They’ve done so much for me over the years. I want to say thank you.”
