Officials pay tribute to HRH Prince Philip

Wetherby Town Council held a short socially distanced service on the Town Hall steps last Saturday to lead the town in the national minute of silence to mark the funeral of HRH Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh.

Representatives of the Wetherby and district branch of the Royal British Legion, Salvation Arm and Churches Together, joined councillors and the Mayor of Wetherby Coun Neil O-Byrne for the tribute.

A council spokesman said: “The response to this event has necessarily been scaled back due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.”

Wetherby Lions paid tribute at the Garden of Rest, and a spokesman said: “Lions clubs around Britain and the world will miss a man whose lifetime of service to others and the environment reflected the Lions motto of “We Serve”.”
