Nidderdale day trips to help people get out and about

A programme of day trips is being launched this month for people who struggle to get out and about.

Nidderdale Plus has announced excursions to Ripley Castle on August 17 and a canal boat trip in Skipton on August 31, using the new Nidd Plus minibus.

Executive Director of the charity Helen Flynn said: “We are aware that there are a considerable number of people living in our area who have no access to transport and who are still struggling to get out and about after the pandemic.

“Days out, such as those we are planning, we hope will improve people’s wellbeing and enable them to visit new places.”

Nidd Plus was one of only 18 charities nationally to gain funding from the Community Transport Association’s Tackling Loneliness through Community Transport Fund.

The weekly market trips to Ripon and Skipton that Nidd Plus is currently running are also covered by this grant funding.

Helen added: “It has been great to receive this funding which means that passengers only pay for the cost of the minibus, entrance fees to attractions, and any lunch or refreshments that are included in the trip.

“Staff costs involved in booking the journeys and helping people on the day (all trips will be accompanied by a staff member) will be covered by the grant.”

Flyers can also be picked up from the Community Hub or the Charity Shop in Pateley Bridge which include more information about the trips.

The schedule of trips until the end of the year, will be available shortly.
