News expert to take audience on journey from the Great Train Robbery to Lockerbie at Bishop Monkton event

A Harrogate author who spent 25 years in the BBC as a reporter, producer and editor on news, current affairs and documentary programmes on both TV and radio is to give a fascinating talk this week

Called A Place in History, this special event at Bishop Monkton Methodist Schoolroom will see Colin Philpott take the audience on a journey to the scenes of major news events to find out how places deal with being in the spotlight.

His trip includes the hotel which collapsed into the sea in Scarborough, the place where the Great Train Robbery took place, scenes of great tragedy like Dunblane and Lockerbie but also places like the Soho loft where John Logie Baird first demonstrated television and the farm field where Bob Dylan once performed.

The talk on Thursday, February 5 at 7pm will also see author Colin Philpott explore what’s happened since to all these places and many others.

The research on which the talk is based was the basis of the first of three non-fiction books written by Colin.
