Lions help Santa prepare delivery

After receiving lots of letters from Wetherby children on his travels around the town, Santa is ready to set out on his magical Christmas Eve journey delivering presents all over the world.

And providing a sleigh for the journey around the area were Wetherby Lions.

Wetherby Lions President Tim Ritson said: “We were delighted to be invited to accompany Santa and help collect his mail.

“And very impressed were we with the number of letters he received.

“I’m sure they have all been read and the requests carried out by his elves.”

He added “The Lions and their friends all worked very hard to make this a safe and successful event in these challenging times.

“The response has been amazing and we had some great social media comments.”

One post said: “What fun and excitement in such challenging times, yet tonight was almost magical and brought back many, many happy memories of years gone by.

Another added: “It was as if the whole community was crying out for a chance to be festive.”

Wetherby Lions are part of Lions International charity and work to provide support to various causes in the area.

Their popular events include a duck race and beer festival, which have both fallen to the restrictions around Coronavirus this year.

Tim added a message to Wetherby News readers: “Have a wonderful Christmas and raise a glass to a safe and happy New Year.”
