Shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry MP is to address members of Harrogate & Knaresborough Labour Party at a meeting of local party members tomorrow night, Friday.

Last night, Wednesday saw Ms Thornberry become the second of the four remaining candidates bidding to succeed Jeremy Corbyn as Labour's leader to appear on the Andrew Neil Show on BBC2 show.

In a typically heated encounter for the show, the MP for Islington South and Finsbury told the show's host there was no need for an “existential crisis about who we (The Labour Party) are and what we stand for.”

She also said she would pick a shadow cabinet of “all the talents” if she became leader.

The three other candidates for the party leadership are Keir Starmer, Rebecca Long-Bailey and Lisa Nandy.

Taking place at the North Bar at 6.30pm, Harrogate & Knaresborough CLP is keen to point out Ms Thornberry's visit is a part of the build-up to the leadership election and does not represent an endorsement.

The purpose of Ms Thornberry's visit is to meet and listen to Labour members and activists about their lessons from the general election and vision for the future of the Labour Party.

Voting in the membership ballot for the Labour Party leadership contest opens on February 21 and closes at midday on April 2.

The result of the leadership election will be announced on April 4.
