A lot has happened in the last 20 years, with restaurants, pubs, bars and shops both opening and closing their doors, buildings being sold or demolished and new experiences on offer for residents and visitors.
So why not take a walk down memory lane and look through these 13 ways that Harrogate has changed since the year 2000. How many do you remember?
1. Bettys opened a new cafe at Harlow Carr

2. You can no longer drink the sulphur water
Once upon a time, visitors flocked from all over the world to taste Harrogate's 'healing' sulphur water at the Royal Pump Room - among them the likes of Charles Dickens and Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, but in 2012 EU regulations ruled them unfit for human consumption.
3. The Empire Theatre building became a restaurant
The old Empire Theatre building, also formerly know as the Gaiety, had been closed since the 1930s, although nothing much had been done with the premises and they were damaged by fire in 1996. 4. Harrogate Borough Council moved offices
In 2018, Harrogate Borough Council moved out of its famous Crescent Gardens building and into a 12 development at Knapping Mount. The Civic Centre was officially opened in 2017 and replaced council office accommodation in five separate locations across the town centre. The building was designed by Yorkshire-based architects Farrell and Clark.
