The puss, described by rescuers as being 'just skin and bone', was discovered by the side of a roundabout near Wetherby at junction 45 of the A1.

Leeds Cat Rescue said she weighed a minuscule 1.3kg when she was found, similar to the weight of a kitten aged just half her six months.

The kitten was taken straight to a vets after being found, where sadly her leg was "beyond saving".

The cat rescue has said the roundabout where she was found was a "known dumping ground" for unwanted pets, with nine cats found abandoned there over recent months.

Only five were rescued uninjured, as two have needed to have their legs amputated, one had a dislocated hip and another cat sadly had to be put to sleep due to suffering serious head injuries.
