The initiative involves inviting care homes and charities to nominate staff who they felt deserved a special thank you for their hard work.

The idea was the brainchild of David Billington, funeral director at Full Circle Funerals in Harrogate, after seeing first-hand the dedication of carers during the Covid crisis.

To make it happen, he worked with 23 local businesses to create care packs for each of the nominees, packed full of gifts and treats.

David said: “It’s a wonderful way to say thank you on behalf of the whole community to those unsung heroes who have done so much to support people in their care during coronavirus and through lockdown.

“I’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response from businesses, many of whom have themselves experienced the selflessness of Harrogate’s key workers during the crisis.”

The care packs were delivered by Full Circle Funerals to nominated staff from Henshaws, Granby and Granby Rose Care Homes, Berwick Grange, Harrogate Skills for Living and Vida Grange this week.

Michelle Poole of The Granby Care Home on Granby Road said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to David and all the businesses who donated gifts to express gratitude to our care staff who have worked so tirelessly throughout the pandemic.”

The bags contained everything from tea bags, free haircuts, aromatherapy sticks, zoom yoga sessions, hand cream, water bottles, discounts on acupuncture, toiletries and beauty treatments.

The initiative has been supported by Oatlands Community group and donations have been provided by Harrogate Rotary Club, Harrogate Town Football Club, H2K Skincare, Mama Doreen’s Emporium, Yorkshire Tea, Autism Plus Chocolate Factory, Cargill, Fiona Walmsley of Forever Living, Andrew Walmsley mountain boarding, White Rose Beauty College, Judy Field Counselling, Harrogate Spring Water, Fodder, Asda Harrogate, Well House Yoga Space, Beauty by Rebekah, Jane Wood Acupuncture Clinic, Hugh Rice Family Jewellers, Yvonne Cookson of Serenita Wellness and Jason Baskind of WPA Healthcare.
