Henry Rastrick, who represents Ripon Sailing Club, was nominated for the award by the club’s committee, not only as a testament to his inspired performances, but also for his hard work and commitment in 2014.

As well as competing for the club himself, the teenager helps out by coaching and training other up and coming young sailors .

Henry was chosen by the RYA Yorkshire and Humberside Committee from nominees across the region and he will be presented with his award, along with the other 12 regions winners, at the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show in London on Sunday, March 1.

Royd Brayshay, spokesman for the committee, praised Henry for ‘leading the way’ in the club’s junior fleet, both in the Tera class and in his Mirror.

He said: “Ripon Sailing Club is lucky enough to currently have several talented and competitive junior sailors, however the Committee felt that Henry Rastrick stood out as a fantastic nominee for his all round competitive success and hard work plus the help and commitment he has shown to the club.

“For his success in the Mirror class, credit should be given to his crew and younger brother Jamie who is also a great sailor in his own right.”
