Harrogate MP secures visit from Minister to Harrogate to see fabulous work of Police Treatment Centre

Harrogate’s MP is back on his feet again and has returned to his constituency duty by welcoming a visit by a Government Minister.

Less than a week after being hospitalised with a flare-up of a health condition, the energetic Harrogate and Knaresborough MP was hosting a meeting with the Minister of State for Policing and Crime, Sarah Jones MP at the Police Treatment Centre (PTC) in Harrogate.

The visit follows the Lib Dem MP’s interventions in Parliament to raise the profile and the importance of the valuable work the PTC carry out.

Despite its national importance, the Police Treatment Centre had not been visited by a Government Minister for more than a decade.

Following the meeting’s initial cancellation in February 2025, Mr Gordon has continued to stress the importance of the visit to the Minister.

“I am really proud that Harrogate is home to this important policing provision,” said Harrogate's MP.

"It was a pleasure to welcome the Minister to the constituency and to highlight the crucial work the centre does to support our police officers.

"When I visited last year, I was struck by just how transformative the Centre’s care is.

"I am pleased that the Minister has had the opportunity to see its vital work first-hand.”

The Harrogate-based Police Treatment Centre is a registered charity providing specialist physical rehabilitation and psychological support to serving and retired police officers who are suffering from illness or injury, including those sustained in the line of duty.

The Centre is the only facility of its kind in England, delivering outcomes for officers while reducing pressure on the NHS.

Its work plays a vital role in officer wellbeing and workforce resilience, helping officers return to work more quickly after injury or trauma.

For every £1 spent at the Centre, £3.80 is saved for the taxpayer.

During the visit, the Minister met with Patrick Cairns, CEO of the Police Treatment Centres, to discuss how the Government can better support its services.

The Minister was briefed about the specialist care on offer and recognised the Centre’s important role in supporting police wellbeing and workforce resilience.
