Church warden Michael Hutchinson said: “Sylvia had already taken her last services in the parishes on stream because of the Covid pandemic.

“How lovely it would have been had it been possible to have a live congregation.”

Rev Earle joined the parish in January 2012 to fill a lengthy vacancy.

Mr Hutchinson added: “During her time with us she has proved a great asset to our parish life.

“Not only has she influenced our worship and church activities, Sylvia has taken a very active part in the schools in the parishes as well as welcoming “the younger generations” at our church services.

“Throughout her time here Sylvia has taken an active interest in village activities and in bringing the Church and people together.

“Over the past nine years Sylvia has, through her work with us, brought joy and comfort to many people and families beyond the church congregation.”

Mr Hutchinson added: “We offer her our grateful thanks for all she has done for us.

“We wish her and Patrick a very long and joyful retirement at their home in the Dales.”
