One of Knaresborough’s most-loved tourist spots has been rated in the UK’s best maintained walks top ten.
Independent Cottages analysed the UK's top-rated walking trails across Britain in terms of what the public experience was like.
Using real visitor data sourced from Tripadvisor, the accommodation provider – https://www.independentcottages.co.uk/ – assessed 37,000 visitor reviews to see which walks people consistently praised for being well-maintained and clean.
The result showed the number one visitor walk in Britain was The Gobbins in County Antrim.
The runner-up was Watersmeet Trail in Devon.
But coming in at number three was the Waterside by the Nidd in Knaresborough.
Top Five Best Maintained Walks in UK For Visitors
1 The Gobbins, County Antrim
The Gobbins takes the top spot with zero mentions of uncleanliness across over 1,300 reviews.
This dramatic cliff path on Northern Ireland’s coastline near Islandmagee is something special.
2 Watersmeet Trail, Devon
Coming in at number two is the Watersmeet Trail in Devon, which has no cleanliness complaints across its 401 Tripadvisor reviews.
This woodland walk through Exmoor follows the East Lyn River from Lynmouth to where it meets Hoar Oak Water.
3 River Nidd Waterside Walk, North Yorkshire
The Waterside Walk in Knaresborough has zero uncleanliness mentions across nearly 400 reviews.
One TripAdvisor review mentions that it is “a great walk with some fantastic views of the bridges and countryside.”
4 Cornwall Coast Path, Cornwall
The 300-mile Cornwall Coast Path along the South West takes fourth place, with not a single mention of mess across 374 reviews.
5 Walk to Broadway Tower, Cotswolds
Rounding out the top five is a circular walk to Broadway Tower in the Cotswolds, which climbs up to an 18th-century folly perched on a hilltop, with 368 reviews yet zero cleanliness complaints.
Methodology
The highest ranking walks on TripAdvisor (rated 4 or above) were analysed.
The reviews were scraped for mentions including keywords such as messy, unclean, litter and dog mess.
Where there are multiple walks with the same percentage, the total number of reviews was taken into account in order to rank them.
