Cycle store signs up to virtual event to aid local hospice

All three of the annual cycling events that were due to support the hospice have had to be cancelled due to Covid-19. In their place, the virtual event has been designed for anyone to enjoy no matter what their level of fitness or what type of bike they ride.

Participants, as individuals or teams of four, are encouraged to ride as far as they can, provided they return to their selected start point within four hours to ensure their distance is counted. All participants will receive a medal, posted to them after the event by the hospice’s long-term cycling event sponsor, All Terrain Cycles.

“We’re more than happy to support the event that benefits a really worthy local resource, and good luck to all the participants,” said Tony Booth of All Terrain Cycles, who will also be providing prizes.

There will also be prizes to male individuals and female individuals, on and off road, who achieve the furthest distance in the four hour time allowance.

As well as distance, a King and Queen of the Mountains will be crowned, with a small cash prize for the highest cumulative climb over the four hours for on and off-road riders.

All Terrain Cycles will also be providing a prize to the person who takes the best photo on their route and posts it on the ‘Ride For Manorlands’ Facebook page. Finally, a prize will be awarded to the individual who raises most sponsorship for the event.

David Senior of the Manorlands Cycling events group is looking forward to the event and hopes that the strong local cycling community within the Manorlands Hospice catchment area will get behind it.

He said: “For some it will just be a nice ride out to earn a medal, for the more competitive there will be tactics and a leaderboard will be updated online throughout the weekend.”
