The Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at Wetherby’s Deighton Gates Primary School has been given a new lease of life.

Funding from Councillor Alan Lamb’s discretionary MICE funds has been given to buy replacement parts ensuring the device is always kept ready for service at a moment’s notice.

A defibrillator applies a shock of electricity to restore the heart’s normal rhythm. These devices are fully automatic which means anyone can use it in an emergency, saving precious minutes before the emergency services arrive.

Coun Lamb said: “The golden hour is critical for treating patients. It can be there for when people need it, although I honestly hope it never has to be used.”

He added: “It’s not every day I get the chance to fund something that can clearly save a person’s life.

“I am delighted to be able to support this.”

Coun Lamb agreed to donate £80 from his discretionary Members Improvements in the Community and Environment (MICE) funding pot.
