Christian Aid Week change

Christian Aid Week has been held in the second week of May for the past 62 years but this year will be different because of Covid-19 regulations.

Church members in the Wetherby area, which last year raised over £5,600, are being encouraged to use the e-Envelope to make donations, and to forward it to their friends and family.

They will also have the opportunity to participate in online quizzes, services and prayers during the week, which start on May 10.

Chris Bishop, Christian Aid organiser in Wetherby, said: “The community in Wetherby has always been very generous and supportive of Christian Aid in the past, and we trust that, despite the current difficulties, people will again be willing to support the amazing work done to alleviate suffering and redress inequalities in the world.”

Christian Aid exists to bring hope and support of people living in poverty, injustice and inequality across the world.

Last year £7.5m was raised through such as church and house-to-house collections.

Coronavirus impacts all of us but love unites us all,” said Christian Aid Week Programme Manager Sophie Brightwell.

“It’s during crises like these that the vulnerabilities of those living in extreme poverty are even more evident.

This Christian Aid Week we can fight against coronavirus alongside our sisters and brothers living in poverty.”
