“I’m trying to see what people think about renaming the street where he lives as Marcelo Bielsa Way,” explained Catherine, who has been canvassing opinion on facebook.

“Having Marcelo living in Wetherby has been fantastic for our town. He’s definitely put Wetherby on the map.”

Since the club won promotion, Wetherby has gained more attention because of its links with Bielsa.

Catherine added: “It’s crazy.

“One lady called Marta Parodi cape all the way from Buenos Aires to bring him gifts and visited SantAngelo’s looking for him.

“Last week journalists from Argentina’s national newspaper came to Wetherby to film our town and SantAngelo’s and did an article about Marcelo living in Wetherby.

“Sky Sports also did a programme two weeks ago about Marcelo and again Wetherby was mentioned.

“So all this publicity surrounding Marcelo is fantastic advertising for Wetherby and definitely brings many visitors to our town. We definitely need this after 15 weeks of lockdown.”

She added: “He loves Wetherby as it reminds him of where he’s from in Argentina.

“We will now have high profile footballers being signed up at Leeds and once again we will see them moving into Linton, which in turn is fantastic news for Wetherby.

“It brings people into our town hoping to catch a glimpse of these footballers.”
