A Nidderdale family is celebrating the arrival of a fifth generation baby - for the second time in 24 years.

There are 89 years between month-old Charlie Scruton and his great great grandma Doris Moorhouse.

The family was featured in the Nidderdale Herald in 1990 when Charlie’s mum Kimberley Abbott was born, marking five generations of girls. She was pictured in the newspaper sitting on the knee of her great great grandma Sarah-Jane Pullan, who passed away in 1994 aged 91.

Now the women, who all live in Nidderdale, are delighted to have resumed their fifth generation status.

And they all got together this week to re-enact the 1990 picture for the Nidderdale Herald photographer - this time with baby Charlie.

Charlie is sitting on the knee of his great great grandma Doris, alongside mum Kimberley, 24, grandma Diane Graham, 44, and great grandma Margaret Robinson, 67.

He is Doris’s first great great grandchild. She has four children, nine grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Doris said: “It doesn’t seem long since the first photo was taken and here we are doing it again.”

Charlie lives with mum Kimberley and dad Michael Scruton, 25, in Dacre Banks. The plan is to celebrate Charlie’s arrival in a gown that has been passed down the family for seven generations, and which Kimberley was wearing in the original photograph.

Also, during the time when there was a Braithwaite Women’s Institute, the gown featured in a Grandma’s Treasure exhibit in a WI Federation display in York.

First-time mum Kimberley said: “I don’t know any other families with five generations, so for us to do it twice is quite unusual. Here’s hoping we can do it again for the third time.”

She added: “I think it is nice how we all live in Nidderdale and don’t have to travel far to see each other.”

In a few years’ time, Charlie may attend Dacre Braithwaite CE Primary School, where many of his relatives have been to school over the years. Doris was school secretary at the school for 25 years and Margaret held numerous posts there on and off for around 30 years.

Charlie also has three lines of four generations on his dad’s side. He was born in Harrogate District Hospital on August 31, weighing eight pounds and half an ounce.
