Social media was flooded with tributes, videos and pictures of the ‘incredibly popular enigma and legend’ after the news spread that he died on June 17.
Rudy had entertained crowds in Harrogate town centre for years with his mischievous personality and residents of all ages shared their memories of his antics.
On the Harrogate Advertiser Facebook Page, reader, Ashley Reaks, said: “One Christmas Eve in the early 90’s I went out in town and got particularly drunk. I got home in the early hours and accidentally left my flat door open.
'Incredibly popular and loved' Harrogate character, Rudy, dies
“At 7am on Christmas Day, I was rudely awakened (no pun intended) by Rudy at the side of my bed shaking me awake and handing me my guitar.
“He said he’d written a new song called ‘Claire’ and wanted me to write some music to it now! Happy Christmas and RIP Rudy.”
Now in a fitting tribute to pay respects and say goodbye, St Peter’s Church have invited all residents and visitors to come and light a candle and share their fond memories of Rudy between 12.30-1.30pm on Wednesday, July 4.
