Apologies: you will no doubt have noticed the absence of the column for the last few weeks…unfortunately a family emergency took me out of the country for some time and upon return deadlines for Christmas editions had been and gone. Therefore even though I am writing this before Christmas itself, I hope you had a wonderful one and a Happy New Year to you all! Hopefully normal service will now resume.

Church Services for Sunday, January 6 St Robert’s Pannal 8am Holy Communion, 9.30am Family Communion, 11am Holy Communion, 6pm Evensong. Beckwithshaw: 11am Matins.

School Christmas Fayre: the Pannal Primary School Christmas Fayre was a great success and managed to raise over £3,000 for the school. Well done to all concerned and especially Helen Spencer and her team of merry helpers that put in so much time and effort to ensure that the day ran smoothly. If you are ever looking for project/event managers you could do worse than ask these ladies!

Pram Service: takes place on January 14 at 2pm at St Robert’s Church, bring along your preschool children for this lovely service – a wonderful introduction to church life.

Women’s Institute: meet on Tuesday, January 8 at 7.30pm at Pannal Memorial Hall.

Pannal Primary School Sports: good news from the final term at Pannal Primary – the Year 4 swimming team won our cluster competition, went on to represent our Rossett Cluster at the Harrogate final and then in late November competed in the Harrogate and district final and won the trophy - a very strong and talented team, well done. In addition, Pannal School Year 6 football team have been chosen after recent successful tournaments to represent Harrogate in a school games football competition in York on Saturday, January 12.

News and events: please do get in touch if you have an event or something that you would like me to mention in the column. I sometimes don’t get to hear about things until after the event so even if you think I must know about something, please get in touch and tell me anyway, just in case! This will ensure you get a mention.
