Editor’s Comment: Remembering all the events in 2014

The first part of our Review of the Year today makes for interesting reading as we look back on the many events throughout the Harrogate district in 2014.

Of course there was one event that dominated all others - the Tour de France - which will be reviewed in a special edition next Thursday. The Tour brought huge benefits to this district which will be felt for years to come. Its lasting legacy was giving Yorkshire, and also, very prominently, the Harrogate district, a platform on a world stage. No one will ever forget those glorious scenes broadcast across the world on that amazing weekend in July.

But there were many other events, large and small, which helped to shape the year. It would be easy to let the Tour dominate all our thoughts, and not remember the community events which brought so much enjoyment. Often organised by a small band of hard working volunteers, the countless galas, shows, charity fund raisers and community gatherings which have been recorded on the pages of the Harrogate Advertiser throughout the year remind us that there is such a great community spirit in this district. Long may it continue in 2015.

A happy New Year to all our readers.
