Letter: Ten out of ten to Harrogate District Hospital

The NHS are getting some very bad press at the moment: long waiting time for ambulances, patients left on trolleys in A&E for hours, shortage of beds and nursing staff.

Very rarely do we hear good things about our hospitals.

That is why I felt honour bound to relate my recent experience.

I have just spent one week in the Farndale Ward after suffering a fractured hip.

After my fall at home the ambulance arrived in 20 minutes, and the two delightful paramedics soon had me ready (with plenty of pain relief) to travel to A&E.

I was immediately seen and given several x-rays, then taken to Farndale Ward.

I was given my own spacious room with en suite (apparently most of the rooms in Farndale are en suite).

I was made as comfortable as possible and had my operation the following morning.

My operation went well with a highly competant theatre team, who were very friendly.

The nursing staff, physiotherapists and all the ancilliary staff couldn’t have been kinder, nothing was too much trouble, although I know they were often short staffed.

The hygiene was first class, spotlessly clean rooms (thanks to the hard working cleaners), clean bed linen each day, and of course excellent medical care.

I’’m back home now and reflecting on my stay.

I can only give my hospital visit 10 out of 10 on all aspects of my care.
