Letter: RHS - Make the locals feel welcome...

Remember the very friendly Harrogate Arms? Large car park, dog and walker friendly and a relaxing place to sit outside with a drink.

Not now folks. The new owners RHS Harlow Carr have fenced and gated the original car park and now use the area as a general dumping ground for spoil from the gardens. The staff have their own car park so never use it.

RHS have also over the last few weeks put numerous other unwelcome signs up. Plus no parking bollards on the road.

They suggest you park at their number three car park, if it’s open that is. It’s certainly not open early morning or late evening - not helpful when you work.

Liz Thwaite, head of site at Harlow Carr in 2011, said “Number three car park could be used by people visiting the area to go walking or spend time in the Pinewoods because enjoying the outdoors was in line with RHS aims.”

So please RHS, make your locals feel more welcome, because your attitude recently has really upset a lot of people.
