Letter: Recreation - At our wits' end over nuisance

As a resident of Jennyfields for over 11 years, I have lived in the area and use the fields near the Hydro for dog walking, teaching my children to use play equipment and to use the general facilities.

It has become an enormous issue for myself and other local residents who have been plagued by a group of youths who to date have caused criminal damage to the basket ball court – setting alight to the bins, damaging the court itself, assaulting local residents, causing damage to residents’ vehicles, coaxing wildlife with bread and then stoning them – one duck has died from such an incident.

They regularly smoke drugs and leave all their litter from the “munchies” strewn across the field.

Local resident feeling is that we are not getting the support required from the local police and the group of youths are not only intimidating but destructive and creating a beautiful area into a “gang meeting place”.

How do we get this situation sorted? Neighbours have been making a nuisance of themselves with the police just to get this problem sorted to no avail.

We are really at our wits’ end. If our local police force are unable to rein this behaviour in and sort out the problem, then what sort of people will these youths turn into?
