Letter: Parking - Charges not the way to manage
Traffic should be managed by traffic measures such as no parking, time limited parking, off-street parking, public transport etc.
Finance should be managed by fiscal measures. The proper management of traffic should not feature in finance, they are unrelated.
I have a great deal of sympathy for North Yorkshire County Council. Their grant from the government has been severely cut.

Hide AdTo suggest that changes to the cost of parking would improve traffic management and be cost neutral is to stretch credulity to breaking point.
Just say the grant is insufficient to maintain services , therefore, a rise in council tax is necessary.
That would be honest and open.
