Letter: Harrogate station - More interested in the trains...
Northern Rail's regional director, Paul Barnfield, speaks of 'transforming stations', including Harrogate, with automatic gate lines (Advertiser, March 9). These work well at Leeds and elsewhere.
However, I hope he will understand that, after decades of double and treble-speak from a motley collection of Westminster and train company people, the transforming technology which interests us most is that which directly involves things with bogies and wheels.
When might we see the promised replacement and consignment to the scrapyard of the lurching, squealing Pacers, Paul?
And what about new signals and the re-doubling of the track between Knaresborough and York - how’s all this going; have any targets been set?
