Letter: Green waste - Excessive pricing at waste site

I was interested to read the letter from a lady who had been charged for taking a box of broken tiles to the Pennypot Recycling centre.

I had visited the Pennypot Recycling centre recently with four bags of unwanted turf. The four bags were approximately one quarter full so as to make the bags easier to handle in and out of my car.

I was asked to pay £9.36 which I considered extremely excessive. When I explained why I had packed the bags as I did the attendant was sympathetic but said he had to follow the pricing structure.

I took the time and trouble to go to the Pennypot recycling centre, I could have put the turf in my garden recycling bin but I thought I should follow the guidelines, ie no soil in the bin, and do my bit to help recycling.

Perhaps I will not be as conscientious in the future if these high prices for householders prevail.
