Letter: Bond End - Vehicle numbers are the problem
The headline on the front page of the Knaresborough Post on January 19 saying that the Bond End problem will be solved by throwing £200,000 at it is just wrong.
The Multi Authority Steering Group on Bond End which I chair and which has driven the consultation has always made it clear that any final proposal will only reduce not eliminate the pollution and congestion for the long suffering residents.
It is great that since the steering group was set up Government grants have been obtained to provide cleaner buses but it needs to be understood that buses are part of the solution rather than the problem.
The fact is that it is the sheer numbers of vehicles, particularly diesel powered ones using Bond End that are the main pollutants.
We urgently need Central Government to grasp this particular nettle.
Please study the proposals and make your comments on the North Yorkshire Web Site before the 10 February 2017.
