Old showroom hosts art work

The West Park site which was home to Comet, has been acquired by charity VMA to turn it into an arts space and Mayor and Mayoress of Harrogate Coun Nigel Simms and his wife Lynn, recently opened the facility and spoke to the many artists.

Nicola Buscall, the curator of this exhibition, had just 10 days to put together the exhibition which is open until mid December everyday from 10am until 5pm.

Nicola explained: “I felt it was an opportunity that was too good to be true and it had to be driven forward for the sake of Yorkshire artists, many of whom struggle to exhibit and I especially wanted to make use of a huge empty space that is otherwise wasted.

“I love recycling and we have an installation where art is displayed on old Comet rusted steel boxes, which would be impressive in most retail stores.

Work from over 50 artists, aged 18 to 85, includes paintings etchings, glass works, sculpture, with prices ranging from £20 to £1,500.

In addition, anonymous art was donated with the proceeds going to Yorkshire Air Ambulance and The Landmark Trust.
