Studfold, the Nidderdale Experience has won an award for its environmental credentials.

The team took home the Countryside Award at the Yorkshire Post Environment Awards.

The Walker family, who have been custodians of the 170-acre site for 16 generations, describe preserving the Nidderdale countryside as a labour of love.

They have created the Nidderdale Experience, an outdoor attraction designed to encourage young families to explore and appreciate the environment of the Dales.

There is a nature trail and wildflower meadow maze, a campsite and activity centre.

The business was rewarded for its work to reduce its carbon footprint.

Permission has recently been granted to install solar panels on a toilet block, 1,200 broad leaf trees have been planted on site this year and a feasibility study is currently being carried out to explore the possibility of creating a hydropower scheme.

Judges said Studfold was an excellent diversification, conservation and education project.

Ian Walker said the award recognised everything they believed in and strived towards.
