Newcastle United to visit Harrogate Town for pre-season friendly

Harrogate Town will host Premier League Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly this summer.

The Magpies will visit the EnviroVent Stadium on Sunday, July 18, much to the delight of Sulphurites boss Simon Weaver

"It's amazing news. We've not been able to attract the bigger clubs here in the past because of the 3G pitch that we had," he said.

"But, now we're a Football League side with a grass pitch and to have a high-profile opponent like Newcastle coming here is fantastic news. I am delighted."

Steve Bruce's team have two pre-season friendlies on that date, with their first team squad split between the two fixtures, meaning that an array of experienced international footballers are certain to be in attendance.
