Beautifully illustrated, Little Mouse Finds a Safe Place has been written by Ann Dix and published by Worth Publishing,

Ann said: “Although the book deals with a dark subject, it is a gripping story for children with lovely colourful pages. It’s designed to be read with children but it also contains guidelines and resources for professional and parental use.”

Little Mouse Finds a Safe Place has already won praise of its depiction of a difficult subject, including from organisations such as Refuge and Women’s Aid.

Originally trained as a drama teacher, Ann developed the new book from her work with children and families for more than 30 years.

Ann said: “When children have experienced or witnessed domestic abuse and violence, they are frequently left with many confusing and worrying emotions. They need to be enabled by empathic adults to work through and make sense of their feelings.”

Little Mouse Finds a Safe Place has been approved and ‘road-tested’ by both groups of children and individual children, who helped develop the story.

The accessibility of the book is also due to the illustrations which were hand-painted and drawn by fellow therapist Jacqueline Quinn.

Ann said: “The book conveys the tension and anguish of children but tries to offer a safe and contained ending.”
