New challenge for Henshaws head

THE principal of Henshaws College is moving on to a new challenge in Newcastle.

Caroline Smale spent six years at the helm of Henshaws, also working as regional chief executive officer, helping develop the arts and craft centre, vision support service, children’s services and volunteer service.

The college was judged as excellent under her tenure, while the multi-million pound new accommodation block was completed and opened.

At this year’s graduation, Frank McFarlane, chairman of the Henshaws Yorkshire regional board, paid tribute to her leadership.

Ms Smale, who will be the new principal at Northern Counties College in Newcastle working for the Percy Hedley Foundation, said: “It has been a great privilege to put my mark on Henshaws College and to work with such a committed staff team and board.

“I know I am leaving the college in safe hands as I take on my next challenge.”
