MYSTERIOUS green figures have appeared across Harrogate as the district prepares for the arrival of the Olympic torch on June 19.
Harrogate Borough Council has put up a series of sporting figures in public spaces, including roundabouts and parks, to mark the district’s part in the torch relay.
The Valley Gardens is home to three swimmers, while a boxer is on the St George’s roundabout and four runners are circling the Prince of Wales roundabout.
They were created by Neil McLaughlin, nursery manager for Bradford Council, whose wife Trish is Harrogate’s parks development manager.
Patrick Kilburn, Harrogate Borough Council’s head of parks and open spaces, said the scheme had been a real team effort working very closely with partners and volunteers.
The parks team is also planning red, white and blue flower baskets and troughs across the district to mark both the Olympic torch relay and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
