A minute of silence across the district to remember nation's fallen firefighters

Across the district firefighters today (Friday, May 4) marked a minutes silence at 12pm for Firefighters' Memorial Day, honouring the 2,524 firefighters who have died on duty since records began.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Station Manager, Ben Cairns said:”From a personal perspective this is the time that we can reflect on those who gave their lives to safeguard the public.”

Harrogate Watch Manager, Bruce Reid, MBE added his hopes that the remembrance day could eventually become a more widely marked national event.

He said: “I personally am an old traditionalist and I am very keen to see that our colleagues who have made the ultimate sacrifice are remembered.”
