Marmalade sales reach 1,000 jars at Harrogate’s Coach and Horses

Sheila Farr, known as Margaret to her friends, has been making her special blend for the charity and was at the pub when the landmark 1,000th jar was sold to be recognised for her efforts.

She was presented with a bottle of Pol Roger Champagne and an antique jam pan made up as a planter display by Horticap garden centre which is responsible for the floral display outside the pub.

Margaret said: “it is a shame that such a wonderful organisation like Martin House has to rely on charitable donations, and I am happy to do what I can.

“It is quite a production but well worth the time and effort. The marmalade is made to my own unique recipe and that is a closely guarded secret.

“It might seem an odd thing for a pub to sell, but I will keep going as long as there is a demand.”

The marmalade is part of the pub’s commitment to Martin House, and landlord John Nelson said every week the Coach and Horses has people coming back for another jar.

Head of fundraising for Martin House Alison Wort said: “On behalf of the children and families I want to say a massive thank you to John, his staff and regulars for their support, and most especially to the marvellous Margaret.

“Every single penny goes to Martin House and we couldn’t have done it without them.”

Mr Nelson also thanked the Myring’s Estate Agents team that ran the Great North Run and Wot’s Cooking, which provide a regular prize for the Friday Night raffle.
