Man's body found in the River Wharfe at Tadcaster

The body of a man has been recovered from the River Wharfe in Tadcaster.

Police were called at 8.40am today (Sunday, February 21)by a member of the public who discovered some personal items on Mill Lane, near the river.

Officers remain at the scene, where they are continuing to investigate the incident.

Officers have been working with North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue to recover the man’s body and a thorough search of the river banks is also being carried out.

Family of the man, who is believed to be a local man in his 30s, have been informed and specially-trained officers are providing support. However, his identity will not be released until a formal identification has taken place.
