I rang the council to report some fly tipping. I thought it would take just a couple of minutes to give the location details, but it took 40 minutes.
I was passed backwards and forwards between the borough council and the county council, spoke to five different people, was left holding on so long at one point that I gave up and redialled.
I then had to listen, for the third time, to a recorded message about options, payments, fostering etc, until finally being transferred to someone who was willing to take the details.
It was all very frustrating and irritating and highlighted the need for clarification of council responsibilities, particularly where there is some overlap.
It should have been possible for me to make one quick phone call and have the information passed to the relevant person or department or am I expecting too much efficiency?
About half an hour later I was rung by the person instructed to organise the removal of the rubbish, to ask for the location details, as the message he’d received just said it was ‘next to a stile’.
