Harrogate Cricket Club batsman Jonny Tattersall has been selected as vice-captain for England U-19s upcoming World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

The Knaresborough 19-year-old will travel to the Middle East later this month before the tournament starts in February.

England will play Sri Lanka, New Zealand and the UAE in the group stages, beginning their quest against the hosts on February 14.

Four Yorkshire players have been picked in the squad including captain Will Rhodes.

Tattersall said: “It is excellent to represent your country at a World Cup.

“It will be one hell of an experience.

“Hopefully we can get on well and win it.”

Tattersall was part of the England U-19s squad that lost a tri-series to Pakistan in the UAE before Christmas.

The batsman averaged 32 on that trip, predominantly opening the batting, and also took three wickets at 23 with his leg-spin.

He missed the match which saw England embarrassingly lose to the UAE but returned in England’s 97-run final defeat to Pakistan.

He added: “We have had long chats on how the games went out there we know how we can improve.

“Everybody is feeling pretty good. Hopefully we can put both sides of the game together.”
