Knaresborough Castle is set to become the latest landmark in our district to make it to the small screen, when it plays host to two heats of popular Sky Arts show Landscape Artist of the Year.
It follows the starring role played by both Ripon Cathedral and Harewood House in ITV’s Victoria, while filming took place last month for a major show documenting Harrogate’s Christmas celebrations.
Over 1,000 amateur and professional artists applied for 48 places in the heats, filmed at locations across the UK, for the chance to win a £10k commission and the title of ‘Landscape Artist of the Year 2017’.
The first episode sees presenters Frank Skinner & Joan Bakewell join expert judges art curator Kathleen Soriano, art historian Kate Bryan, and award-winning artist Tai Shan Schierenberg, to watch the eight competitors paint Knaresborough Bowling Green - complete with teams of bowlers and a match in full swing.
Knaresborough will grace the small screen once again in the fifth episode, when eight new competitors will paint the stunning view from the castle to Knaresborough Viaduct.
Landscape Artist of the Year will be broadcast weekly at 8pm from Wednesday 18th October on Sky Arts.
Episode one will broadcast at 8pm on Wednesday, October 18.
Episode five will broadcast at 8pm on Wednesday, November 15.
