An Evening In Vienna: the British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra will be playing seasonal waltzes and polkas during their Christmas Gala Concert in the Royal Hall, 7.30pm Friday, December 14. Operetta star Marilyn Hill Smith (Friday Night Is Music Night) will lead this magical festive entertainment of Strauss, Viennese and Christmas music including such favourites as The Blue Danube, Tritsch Tratsch Polka, Stout Hearted Man and a chance to join in with carol singing and the very Christmassy nostalgic, White Christmas which the forecasters say may well be the case. The Christmas fun will be presented by Mark Langley with guests from Opera North, Jeremy Peaken, baritone and Andrew Forbes Lane, tenor.

The Great Christmas Food And Drink Show: there will be on display a vast array of Christmas food and drink at the International Centre, Kings Road from Friday, December 14 to Sunday, December 16. This year they will perform in the Royal Hall, Ripon Road, at 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday, December 22. Concessions are available and free carer seats for wheelchair users. A Concert For The Family: over 300 children from local primary schools will perform at the Harrogate International Centre, Kings Road at 7pm on Saturday, December 22. The evening is presented by the Harrogate Choral Society and Harrogate Symphony Orchestra. This challenge of logistics to get all the groups working together always manages to produce a fun filled celebration of Christmas and on good authority I understand a special visitor for the children will make an appearance.

New Dances To Learn: on Monday evenings at 7.15pm at the Bilton Working Men’s Club ( Kings Road/Skipton Road junction ) there is now a chance for beginners to learn bachatango and salsa. Contact Trevor Wooltorton on 01423 563907 or Mark McKenna 07905359932 for full details.

The lovely Christingle service for children and families will be at 3pm. During the service decorated Christingle oranges will be given out. The collection will be in aid of The Children’s Society.
