Day Workshop: local artist, Sarah Kay Thornton will lead a Printmaking For Christmas Workshop at the Mercer Art Gallery, Swan Road, Harrogate. This will be a chance to personalise cards, wrapping paper, gift tags, gift bags and decorations using several block printing techniques. The cost is £25 including materials plus tea and coffee (not including lunch). Places need to be booked on 01423 556188 for this Thursday, November 29 workshop which runs from 10am–4pm.

Popular Musical Work: conducted by Andrew Padmore, The Harrrogate Choral Society will perform Handel’s Messiah in the Royal Hall on Saturday, December 1 at 7.30pm. With so many devotees of this well loved work it is as well to book early. Tickets are £17-£24 and may be booked at the Harrogate Theatre Box Office, Oxford Street 01423 502116.

Older Peoples Forum: I have been asked to let you know that the recently formed Harrogate & District Older Peoples Forum will be meeting on Wednesday, November 28 from 2-4pm at St Peter’s Church Meeting Room, Cambridge Road, Harrogate (access in Cambridge Street). As well as discussing whether they want to continue using the term older people in their title or prefer another name, those attending will be able to hear a member of Harrogate Library staff explaining what local information is available there and how to access it. The aim of the group is to give those over fifty a chance to air their concerns and needs of growing older and for representation at local and county meetings of relevant bodies. In conjunction with Open Doors, members will enjoy a Christmas lunch at the Hotel Majestic on Thursday, December 6. Meetings are also held in Knaresborough and Ripon. Christmas Approaches: Yorkshire singer of Folk for over 20 years, Kate Rusby will be entertaining her audience at the Royal Hall with amongst her extensive repertoire, Yorkshire inspired tunes and carols from her two albums. This Christmas performance with her band, which incudes a brass quintet, will help to give the evening an energy to get us in seasonal mood. The performance begins at 7.30pm, tickets are £25 and £15 for children, and as with all performances scheduled for the Royal Hall may be purchased from the Harrogate Theatre Box Office, Oxford Street or on line A £1.75 transaction fee applies,
