More Money For Macmillan Funds: over recent years more and more people have wanted to join in to raise money for the annual Macmillan Charity Big Coffee morning. The staff of the Swan Dental Practice, Ripon Road decided to join in and this year organised their own coffee morning for patients and friends and raised £120.
Winter Fair: everyone is welcome to go along and support the fundraising Winter Fair on Saturday, November 24 to be held at the Bilton Working Men’s Club, Skipton Road/Kings Road junction. Organiser, Sarah Wilson, of the charity CETA ( Chris’s Ependymoma Treatment Appeal ) says it promises to be a fun time. There will be all kinds of stalls including arts and crafts, cakes, handbags, tombola and a raffle, and refreshments will be available. The event runs from 11am-2pm and entry is free. Secrets Of York Minster Revealed: Derek Barker is the next speaker at the Friends of Harrogate District Museums Lecture Series. The talk will take place at the Old Swan Hotel, Swan Road, Harrogate on Sunday, November 8 at 2.30pm. Derek, who has been a guide at York Minster for 22 years, will share his knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes and snippets of history not generally known. Be A Part Of The Town’s History: from 11am-3pm on Saturday, November 10 the curator and staff at the Mercer Gallery, Swan Road are hoping to find out more about the Spa history of Harrogate. They would like us to take along any items or stories that pertain to this heyday period of the town’s history. Maybe through photographs, film, objects or written accounts that we may have or when relatives visited, worked in the hotels or gave treatments at the Royal Baths. With permission, stories and items will be recorded and filmed for the archives. The event is free and full information may be had from the gallery on 01423 556188.
Winter Opening Hours: from November to March the opening hours of the Mercer Art Gallery, Swan Road, HG1 2SA, are Tuesday to Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 2-4pm. Closed Mondays except Bank Holidays. The Royal Pump Room Museum, Crown Place, Harrogate, HG1 2RY from November to March is open Monday to Saturday 10.30am-4pm and Sunday 2-4pm. The museum offers annual season tickets, which also include Knaresborough Castle at a cost of £17.20 for a family (four people, up to two adults)
Harrogate Brass Band: the sound of brass will be played at the Old Swan Hotel, Swan Road during the afternoon of Sunday, November 18. The Harrogate Brass Band will play Proms At The Swan whilst the audience enjoys afternoon tea. The cost is £12 per adult and £6 for children under 12. Comedy At The Royal Hall: Welsh comedian Rhod Gilbert will be in town for two nights to perform at the Royal Hall. The performances start at 8pm on Wednesday, November 14 and Thursday, November 15. Known as a regular performer on Live At The Apollo and his own show Ask Rhod Gilbert where he shares his rants on life’s irritations however we are told his new approach is more laid back.
Community Production: for many years the respected Katrina Hughes Dancers have performed at the Royal hall. This year they will once again perform there when they present their show Showtime Express, a spectacular with music and dance from favourite musicals and shows. The performance on Friday, November 16 begins at 7.30pm and on Saturday, November 17 the performances are at 2pm and 7.30pm.
All Age/Parade: the service at Saint Luke’s Church of England Church, Franklin Mount on Sunday, November 11 starts at 10.30am. This Third Sunday Before Advent, Remembrance Day service will be AllAge/Parade.
