Police Station: the address of our new police station is Beckwith Head Road, Harrogate, HG3 1FR which is situated at the top of Otley Road. The hours of opening are 8am-midnight, although this is subject to change at short notice according to operational requirements. In addition there is a local Police Office in town at Craven Lodge, 37 Victoria Avenue, HG1 5PX. Opening hours here are 9am-1pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. As with the main station these are subject to change depending on circumstances. The non-emergency telephone number is 101.

Saint Luke’s Church: There will be a service at Saint Luke’s Church, Franklin Square at 10.30am on Sunday, October 7. Also at the church on the second and fourth Tuesday in the month for one hour at 7.30pm, a Still Waters Quiet Service is held. Further details may be had from the church office on 01423 565129.

Brownies: the Brownies at Saint Luke’s Church Hall, Franklin Square take place on Thursdays from 6-7.30pm and are run by Brown Owl Mrs Jane Lowe. Details regarding available places on 01423 507262.

Innovative Fundraising Idea: a charity fundraising day will be held at Regal Fruiterers, Kings Road, Harrogate on Saturday, October 6. You are invited to go along and help raise funds for Myeloma UK. Myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells which are found in bone marrow and Myeloma UK needs money to do more of their continuing research. The day will be known as Half Price Orange Saturday and on that day all orange fruit and vegetables at the shop will be half price and the proceeds will then be forwarded to the charity.

Conference In Town: for the first time in Harrogate the 15th Annual Symposium of the British Oncology Pharmacy Association (BOPA) will take place at the International Centre from October 18-21. For the first time this is a joint conference with the UK Oncology Nursing Society (UKONS).

Harrogate Stray Probus Club: at their recent meeting held at the Ascot Hotel, Kings Road, members of Harrogate Stray Probus Club listened to the talk by Maggie Poppa entitled Retirement-What Retirement. Whilst most in retirement would recognise the sentiment, Maggie has really done something extra since retiring and continues to do so. Meetings start at 2.30pm and are open to any retired men and women interested in becoming a member. The next meeting is on Tuesday, October 9 and on this occasion Bill Harrison will talk about Nansen – The Explorer. Lecture: the October lecture of the Harrogate Civic Society will be given by John Shackleton who will talk about his charitable work taking ambulances to Eastern Europe. The society will meet at 7.30pm Tuesday, October 9 in the Kings Room, Ascot House Hotel, Kings Road. The cost is £5 and there is no need to book.
