Opera At The Old Swan: there will be an evening of entertainment featuring leading artists from Ultimate Music Entertainment at the Old Swan Hotel, Swan Road from 7pm on Saturday, October 20. Holidays Over: the Rice Bowl restaurant on Kings Road has been closed for an extended holiday and is now reopen.
Autumn Exhibition: one of the leading galleries promoting fine art, jewellery and sculpture, Anstey Galleries, on Swan Road are now showing their autumn exhibition of contemporary art including jewellery and sculpture. All the artists on show have a similar philosophy regarding their work, which, even though their approach and subject matter varies their aim is to broaden boundaries in art. Opportunity To Take Part: there will be a public debate at 7pm on Wednesday, October 24 in the Council Chambers, Crescent Gardens, Harrogate. HG1 2SG. This first debate asking Is Religion A Force For Good will see Rev Nicholas Henshall and professor John Adams MBE, chair of the North Yorkshire Humanist Association take the floor to put over their views. Great Expeditions: mountaineer and explorer Sir Chris Bonington will share stories of his adventurous life climbing the highest mountains and journeying to the most remote and unexplored regions of the world. During the evening show starting at 7.30pm in the Royal Hall on Tuesday, October 23 he will be showing footage of his early adventures. Tickets are all £18.
Open Day: once again there is another chance to have a free look around and explore the town’s iconic Royal Hall on Ripon Road. On Tuesday, October 30 you can visit any time between 10am-4pm. A Chance To Vote: we are invited to visit the Harrogate Open 2012 art exhibition at the Mercer Art Gallery Swan Road. On display until January 20 2013 is an eclectic arrangement of art work by artists from our district. The judges of this annual competition selected Julia Odell’s painting , titled Nithering Almscliffe, as the winner of the £200 prize. We are also given the opportunity to vote for our favourite from all those on display and the winning artist will receive the Peoples Prize. Congratulations to Julia , when you view her work you will see why it was given its title and we look forward to finding out who wins the Peoples Prize. Most of the work is for sale which gives us an ideal opportunity to enhance our home.
Saint Luke’s Church of England Church: Holy Communion will be celebrated at the 10.30am service on Sunday, October 21 at St Luke’s Church, Franklin Mount. The church is situated behind the old church on Kings Road, which is now apartments.
Musical Afternoon: at their regular meeting on Tuesday, October 23 members of Harrogate Stray Probus Club will be entertained by Colin Spellman who will introduce A Musical Afternoon. The venue for this friendly group is the Ascot Hotel, Kings Road, where there is a car park and ample street parking. New members, men and women, retired and semi retired are all welcome.
